Miragem
Computation is one of the most powerful tools for our age. It opens up a whole world of possibilities. Some people use its power to solve the mysteries of our universe through science. I’m using it to explore our relationship with beauty and perception.
“Miragem” (Mirage in Portuguese) is a generative project that requires your slow attention. It’s an exploration of rhythm, balance, and texture. Just simple elements in a coordinated dance, ruled by math and randomness.
It’s an invitation for the eyes and mind to wander.
“Beauty is the mystery of life. It is not in the eye, it is in my mind. In our minds there is awareness of perfection.”Beauty Is the Mystery of Life by Agnes Martin
About the composition
The composition follows three major rules: The number and orientation of groups, the number and orientation of dashes, and the distribution pattern of dashes along each group.
The increasing number of dashes, combined with the rough textures and the mathematical precision of the patterns, end up with a surprising range of possibilities and intriguing compositions.
Group types
There are three possible group types — Vertical, Horizontal, and Diagonal. It's responsible for the overall structure of each piece.
Dash types
There are five possible dash types — Horizontal, Vertical, Rotating, Diagonal, and Mixed (a combination of 2 of the other dash types).
Wavy Path
Wavy Paths break the linear structure of the Group Types, causing the dashes to follow their direction in a more fluid path. It may appear on any Group Type, with different intensities – some more subtle, others more intense.
Constrained Dashes
Constrained dashes only appear in Horizontal and Vertical groups, giving a more monolithic look to the composition.
Patterns
This feature is responsible for the rhythm and movement of the composition. It's the mathematical rule that dictates the distribution pattern for the dashes.
Printing
To export a high-quality image for printing, press 's' on the token in fullscreen mode.
If you want a svg file for pen plotters, go to /mirage/svg and add your token hash on the prompt, or add it directly on the URL (/?token=HASH).
That's it. Thank you so much for stopping by. ✨
